Meeting Recap: 3/24/25

There’s not a lot to recap this time around. Building on the budget meetings held earlier this month, the committee approved the district’s recommendation of $87,583,290 for our municipal budget request for fiscal year 2026. Budget analyst Gerry McCue shared the adjustments to funds, new spending, and savings. There was very little commentary from the committee and none from the public. Highlights included appreciation for the continued cleaning up of accounts and fund tracking and the fact that this request was 5.5% higher than FY25 and 2.8% higher than the preliminary allocation from the City. Uncertainty around federal funds was acknowledged; between this and the ongoing negotiations with several unions, we agreed to hold off on new building-based hires for the upcoming school year until more information is available. (Thankfully, there were no budget-based cuts to staffing this time around.) Watch the video here.

Our regular meeting, which lasted less than 10 minutes, was a full consent agenda consisting of many meeting minutes, and a lovely array of donations from the broader community, all listed in the meeting agenda. Executive session followed.

Next month’s regular meetings are scheduled for April 7 and April 14. See you then, but maybe also at my office hours next week!
